Unfinished Aung San Suu Kyi by Anne Copeland

      Thumbing through a newspaper one day, I was stuck by a photo of this truly incredible woman.  So petite and delicate in appearance, who would ever imagine that she is the national hero of the people of Myanmar, Burma, and that this woman almost single-handedly has led the people in her area toward a major resistance against the military regime that has so consistently prevented the people from gaining freedom and that has consistently brutalized and murdered the citizens in that country for so many years.

Like this art quilt above, this story is unfinished, but it is good to know that in these difficult times, someone is willing to sacrifice everything for her country and the people in it. 

     Women are rising up in this world in so many ways to fight for rights, and many like Aung San Suu Kyi have dedicated their lives to help others in their countries to be able to live fully without fear.  I would love to hear about your special women heroes in this life and what they have done. We need to make others aware that freedom is not free. Like the many male heroes who have given their lives to give this greatest of  gifts to all of us, we need to find ways to ensure that they are never forgotten.

    My hero and the entire world’s hero is Jesus Christ. He gave his life for me way back on Calvary setting me free from hell and my sins! He died for you too and he loves you very much. Give your life to him and receive eternal life. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his ONLY begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but shall have everlasting life.

    1. Yes, and he also died to show us the way he wants us to conduct life here on this earth. He does not want us to turn away from helping others ever. If you remember the little drummer boy, God treasured his gift the most because he gave from the heart all that he had to give. It is our gifts from the heart that God loves, no matter how poor we may be in the reality of the world. Thank you too, Tammy.

Aung San Suu Kyi is certainly a brave lady …My heroes all the people who unselfishly give their time to help others, the ladies and men who drive people to doctors and hospital appointments and take them home again for free. People who are too infirm to use public transport, the doctors and nurses who go to war zones to help the injured there are so many examples I could give but everyday heroes.

  5. I absolutely agree, Carol. This is beautiful. Yes, we must always revere and appreciate those heroes whose names we may never know too. I thought of her because as I had noted, I saw the photo of her and how tiny she is, and how much she has suffered to be able to continue to stand for the people in her land. Not being able to go to her husband when he was dying of cancer, and so many other things that are almost unimaginable, made her someone whose story I wanted to capture.

    There are thousands of unknown and blessed people who serve others everyday and whom no one knows. I must do a post for them soon too, because you are so right. Peace and many blessings, Anne always

  6. My Heroes are My Mum, my grand-Mother and my grand-Father (My mother’s dad). They were really free people and they teach my Mum about beeing responsible in what she does, and to be in line with her phylosophy (her way of seeing life). They encourage her to say outloud what she had to say and to never be afraid to say it.
    My Mum did and does the same with me. I love her, she is my Heroe.
